CONTEXT: Carney complex, a multiple neoplasia syndrome, characterized primarily by spotty skin pigmentation and a variety of endocrine and other tumors, is caused by mutations in PRKAR1A, the gene that codes for the RIalpha subunit of protein kinase A (PKA).
