Over 257 mutations in the human calcium-sensing receptor (hCaSR) gene have been reported. Heterozygous inactivating mutations can result in familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia (FHH), whereas homozygous inactivating mutations can cause life-threatening neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism (NSHPT).
