PURPOSE: The direct phenotypic effects of BCG on human urothelial carcinoma (UC) cells include cell cycle arrest, apoptotic resistance, and caspase-independent cell death. These effects are associated with increased expression of the cyclin dependant kinase inhibitor (CDKI) p21.
