Picornaviruses disrupt nucleocytoplasmic trafficking pathways during infection. Poliovirus and rhinovirus inhibit nuclear protein import/export through a series of 2A protease-dependent cleavages within nuclear pore proteins (nucleoporins [Nups]), including Nup62, Nup98, and Nup153.
