The cholinergic differentiation factor (CDF) in heart cells is identical to leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF). Recombinant CDF/LIF was shown to alter dramatically neurotransmitter production as well as the levels of several neuropeptides in cultured rat sympathetic neurons.
