In Saccharomyces cerevisiae, accumulation of cadmium-glutathione complex in cytoplasm inhibits cadmium absorption, glutathione transferase 2 is required for the formation of the complex and the vacuolar gamma-glutamyl transferase participates of the first step of glutathione degradation.
