Familial Mediterranean fever is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by sporadic, paroxysmal attacks of fever and serosal inflammation. In Familial Mediterranean fever, peritoneal effusion during abdominal attacks is usually mild, is not detected by clinical evaluation, and disappears during clinical remission.
