Iron/sulfur (Fe/S) proteins are central to the functioning of cells in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Here, we show that the yhgI gene, which we renamed nfuA, encodes a two-domain protein that is required for Fe/S biogenesis in Escherichia coli.
