Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ) content was measured in isolated muscle mitochondria from 25 patients with mitochondrial encephalomyopathies (MEM), most of whom had mitochondrial DNA mutations. The CoQ level was significantly lower in MEM patients than in controls.
