Oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy (OPMD) is a late-onset, progressive disease caused by the abnormal expansion of a polyalanine tract-encoding (GCG)(n) trinucleotide repeat in the poly-(A) binding protein nuclear 1 (PABPN1) gene.
