OBJECTIVES: Hereditary pancreatitis (HP) is a form of recurrent acute pancreatitis (AP) mediated by mutations in cationic trypsinogen (PRSS1). Mutations cluster in the calcium-associated regulator regions of PRSS1. In rats, calcium-channel blockers (CCB) prevent hyperstimulation-associated AP.
