A brief exposure to iodine vapour was used to screen for mutants of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae affected in development. Besides obtaining a large number of asporogenous mutants, two novel mutations were identified that permitted germination of spores to occur in conditions (sporulation medium) in which the wild-type would not germinate.
