DNA mismatch repair (MMR) mechanism contributes to the maintenance of genomic stability. Loss of MMR function predisposes to a mutator cell phenotype, microsatellite instability (MSI) and cancer, especially hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (HNPCC).
