Verotoxin-producing Escherichia coli (VTEC) O157:H7 inhibits interferon-gamma-stimulated tyrosine phosphorylation of signal transducer and activator of transcription (Stat)-1 in epithelial cells, independent of Verotoxins and the locus of enterocyte effacement pathogenicity island.
