The Bacillus subtilis small cytoplasmic RNA (scRNA) has an important, although not yet defined function in protein biosynthesis. Here we describe the mapping of the single copy scRNA gene and the flanking homolog to dnaZX of Escherichia coli, termed 'dnaX'.
