UNLABELLED: In type 2 diabetes mellitus the decreased catabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins as a consequence of mainly the decreased lipoprotein lipase activity results in hypertriglyceridaemia and other lipoprotein alterations promoting atherosclerosis. The high-density lipoprotein-associated enzyme, paraoxonase, prevents the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein, which is an antiatherogenic effect. AIM:...
