Disrupted-in-Schizophrenia-1 (DISC1), identified by cytogenetic approaches in a pedigree with familial psychosis, is considered a candidate susceptibility gene for schizophrenia in some populations. In the pedigree, the TRAX gene, located adjacent to DISC1 on the disrupted chromosome 1, may also contribute to the pathophysiology of the familial schizophrenia.
