BACKGROUND: In transfusion medicine, anti-Jk(a) has been implicated in hemolytic transfusion reactions. Development of anti-Jk(a) after transfusion does not always occur after Jk(a-) patients receive at least 1 unit of Jk(a+) blood unit.
