A gene called fbl, encoding a Staphylococcus lugdunensis fibrinogen-binding protein, was identified by phage display. The encoded protein, Fbl, is a member of the Sdr-family, a group of staphylococcal cell surface proteins containing a characteristic serine-aspartate repeat region.
