We have cloned the nuclear gene MRP4 coding for a mitochondrial ribosomal protein of the yeast, Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The gene was isolated by complementation of a respiratory-deficient mutant with a pleiotropic defect in mitochondrial gene expression.
