The mitochondrion of Trypanosoma brucei lacks tRNA genes. Organellar translation therefore depends on import of cytosolic, nucleus-encoded tRNAs. Except for the cytosol-specific initiator tRNA(Met), all trypanosomal tRNAs function in both the cytosol and the mitochondrion.
