Streptomyces viridochromogenes Tü494 produces the antibiotic phosphinothricyl-alanyl-alanine (Ptt). Ptt-non-producing mutants were isolated following N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (NTG) or UV light treatment of spore suspensions.
