The flux of fatty acids toward beta-oxidation was analyzed in Saccharomyces cerevisiae by monitoring polyhydroxyalkanoate synthesis in the peroxisome from the polymerization, by a bacterial polyhydroxyalkanoate synthase, of the beta-oxidation intermediates 3-hydroxyacyl-CoAs.
