We estimate the timing of the Arabidopsis thaliana whole-genome duplication by means of phylogenetic and statistical analysis, and propose two possible scenarios for the duplication. The first one, based on the assumption that the duplicated segments diverged from an autotetraploid form, places the duplication at about 38 million years ago, after the Arabidopsis lineage diverged from that of soybean (Glycine max)...
