The first step of proline biosynthesis is catalyzed by gamma-glutamyl kinase (GK). To better understand the feedback inhibition properties of GK, we randomly mutagenized a plasmid carrying tomato tomPRO1 cDNA, which encodes proline-sensitive GK.
