Non-Hodgkin lymphomas (NHLs) are characterized by chromosomal translocations that juxtapose loci encoding lymphoid antigen receptors with cellular proto-oncogenes. These translocations are thought to arise from inaccurate processing of DNA breaks created during physiologic recombination of the antigen receptor genes in lymphocytes.
