We have isolated two overlapping genomic clones that contain the 5'-terminal portion of the human vacuolar H(+)-ATPase c subunit (ATP6L) gene. The sequence preceding the transcription initiation site, which is GC-rich, contains four GC boxes and one Oct1-binding site, but there is no TATA box or CCAAT box.
