BACKGROUND: Because abnormalities in opioid neurotransmission appear to underlie some of the inherited risk for alcoholism, we examined the effects of naloxone, an opioid antagonist, on corticotropin and cortisol responses in nonalcoholic subjects differentiated by paternal history of alcoholism.
