Human herpesvirus-8 (HHV-8) is believed to be the aetiological agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). KS accounts for half the reported cancer cases in Uganda, and occurs in endemic and epidemic [human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-associated] forms.
