Interferon-tau (IFNtau), the ruminant pregnancy recognition signal, inhibits transcription of the estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha) gene in the endometrial lumenal epithelium of the sheep uterus, thereby abrogating production of luteolytic PGF(2alpha) pulses.
