Mitochondrial trifunctional protein (MTP) is a hetero-octamer of four alpha and four beta subunits that catalyzes the final three steps of mitochondrial long chain fatty acid beta-oxidation. Human MTP deficiency causes Reye-like syndrome, cardiomyopathy, or sudden unexpected death.
