Research on SmithKline Beecham's topotecan, stalled during a patent dispute, is now being investigated for its anti-HIV and AIDS-related malignancy potential. One study found that treatment with high doses of topotecan over three months resulted in no new virus production, even when stimulated with HIV promoters, and further analysis of the genes revealed mutations in HIV that seemed to render the virus sterile....
