beta-Arrestins mediate agonist dependent desensitization of G protein-coupled receptors. Somatic TSH receptor mutations were identified in the majority of hot thyroid nodules. When transiently overexpressed in COS 7 cells these mutations resulted in constitutive activation of the cAMP pathway.
