The glycoprotein hormone alpha-subunit (GPHalpha) gene is inducible by sodium butyrate (NaBtr) in nontrophoblastic tumor cell lines such as HeLa (cervical carcinoma) but not in trophoblastic tumor cell lines such as JEG-3 (choriocarcinoma).
