An automatic and rapid DNA typing system was employed for personal identification, using fragmentary tissue samples from victims in an airplane accident. Two victims were crushed into small pieces, and 33 samples suspected to belong to them were recovered from under the sea. From each sample, 10 mg was used for testing.
