Mutants defective in the synthesis of antitumor angucycline antibiotic landomycin E were obtained from the asporogenic and initial sporulating strains of Streptomyces globisporus 1912 by means of nitrosoguanidine treatment and UV-irradiation of the mycelium fragments and protoplasts.
