<h4>Summary</h4> Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease affecting motor neurons. Mutations in the SPTLC1 subunit of serine-palmitoyltransferase (SPT), which catalyzes the first step in the de novo synthesis of sphingolipids cause childhood-onset ALS.
