Melon yellow spot orthotospovirus (MYSV, genus Orthotospovirus, family Tospoviridae) is naturally transmitted by Thrips palmi (Kato et al. 1999). It was initially identified from a melon (Cucumis melo) plant in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan (Kato et al. 2000).
