Elaeagnus angustifolia is an economically important tree species for wind breaks and sand fixation. The flowers, fruits, branches, leaves, and bark all have medicinal uses. In June and July 2015, symptoms of canker and dieback were observed on the main stems of E. angustifolia in Tacheng City and Toli County, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China, where approximately 30% of the E. angustifolia were affected.
