Highly asymmetric somatic hybrid plants were obtained by PEG/DMSO fusion of gamma-irradiated mesophyll protoplasts of the kanamycin-resistant (KmR+) interspecific hybrid Lycopersicon esculentum X L. pennellii (EP) with mesophyll protoplasts of Solanum melongena (eggplant, E).
