Virulence properties of cariogenic Streptococcus mutans depend on integral membrane proteins. Bacterial protein trafficking involves the co-translational signal recognition particle (SRP) pathway components Ffh and FtsY, the SecY translocon, and membrane-localized YidC chaperone/insertases.
