Heterologous protection can provide resistance against virus infection in transgenic plants and was evaluated with two potyviruses, potato virus Y (PVY) and lettuce mosaic virus (LMV). PVY causes a serious disease of tobacco. Transgenic plants, Nicotiana tabacum cv.
