Entamoeba histolytica is a parasitic amoeba and the cause amoebiasis, a common but understudied human diarrheal disease. E. histolytica trophozoites (“amoebae”) kill human cells through a process of cell-nibbling called trogocytosis ( trogo -: nibble) that contributes to tissue damage.
