Elevated plasma LDL-cholesterol (LDL-C) is associated with an increased risk for atherosclerosis and development of cardiovascular disease. Elevated plasma LDL-C concentration is the result of enhanced C synthesis, C absorption and/or altered C homeostasis. Plasma LDL-C lowering can be achieved using pharmaceutical means.
