Analysis of Vibrio harveyi dark autoinducer mutants has demonstrated that the level of LuxR was much lower than that observed in wild-type cells. Complementation with luxR fully restored luminescence suggesting that the lux autoinducer may control expression of the luxR regulatory gene.
