Aquatic birnaviruses are the most ubiquitous and diverse group of viruses in the family Birnaviridae. Several cause different diseases in a variety of fish species, such as infectious pancreatic necrosis virus in salmonids in North America, Europe, and Asia and European eel virus in eel in Asia.
