Three enzymes are specifically required for uptake and catabolism of citrate by Klebsiella pneumoniae under anaerobic conditions: a Na+ -dependent citrate carrier (CitS), citrate lyase (CitDEF), and the Na+ pump oxaloacetate decarboxylase (OadGAB).
