Administration of cimetidine, an H2-receptor antagonist increases blood alcohol concentrations. This has been attributed to decreased gastric first-pass metabolism of ethanol caused by cimetidine's inhibitory effect on gastric alcohol dehydrogenase (sigma-ADH) activity.
