Using polymerase chain reaction, we analysed the variable number tandom repeats (VNTR) in intron 13 of coagulation factor VIII gene in the Chinese. Study of 115 X chromosomes from 77 normal Chinese revealed that the VNTR is composed of at least 4 different alleles in the Chinese, i.e. 19, 20, 21, and 23 repeats 53% of the females analysed were heterozygous of this VNTR.
