Rhodococcus equi is a gram-positive coccobacillus that appears to be emerging as a pulmonary pathogen in AIDS patients. In four human clinical isolates, two antibiotic resistance phenotypes were found to coexist: one beta-lactam resistant and the other beta-lactam susceptible.
